Emotional intelligence is a trending trait, deemed crucial for personal success and for manifesting deeply-meaningful partnerships.
Emotions are facilitators. They naturally occur during certain events in order to amplify your attention. Emotions are incentive to learn to navigate situations that cause you bad feelings so you don’t have to feel like that again. And emotions provide incentive to hone skills that result in good feelings. When emotions are present, your memory is heightened — you are more likely to remember events charged with emotion.
Now if you label any or all emotions as bad, you have added more issues to your plate — why make a secondary problem out of the emotion. To emote is human. To shut down or ignore your emotions is you ignoring your energetic system’s own divne intelligence. So greet your emotions as they come if it is possible at the time. Some emotions must be stopped and saved for a more appropriate time and place. Part of emotional intelligence is to know when to hold me and know when to fold em. Just dont ignore them forever because feelings gain strength when you invest more energy in the emotion to squash it down. Unaddressed emotions can become nagging, unidentified feelings of unease that continuously scratch for your attention.
If an emotion arises, acknowledge it. If appropriate, feel it and let the feeling(s) run its course. Otherwise, do this later in a safe place. Then, in contemplation, determine what triggered the emotion. Is this emotion being triggered often or seemingly way too easily? How do i soothe myself when the emotion arises? How do I parent myself when the emotion arises? Am i unable to control my behavior when the emotion arises? What is this emotion trying to help me learn? Etc
